N80991 UPDATE! (Sept. 30, 2019)

Last week I posted a video talking about N80991's progress on the Major Engine Overhaul. Bob had said at that time that it looked like he'd be done by the end of the week. It's not finished yet, 7 days later. We decided that we wanted the ring gear and the baffling of the engine to be painted as well, so I had to go back to Lago Vista and deliver those parts to him as well. Slowly but surely, it's coming together! Bob is a meticulous A&P mechanic. He will NOT cut corners or glaze over details simply to get the engine out faster. We told him from the beginning that we are in NO rush to get this engine back, and look at the attached photo - it's beautiful! The engine looks like it came from a factory remanufacture.

Some other items we're working on are: new ignition switch, new starter contactor, new door locks, new magnetic compass (panel-mounted), new gas door struts, and a new stall horn reed. Additionally I'm hoping to start working on replacing the interior soon after the engine is put back in, and we already have a company working on custom leather seats! Is N80991 in maintenance, or a spa? I'll keep you updated!

Fly safe!
